A Step Too Far (Kain) (PG-13)

As the snow felt softly, Luna quietly walked one of the many paths she had taken multiple times on her different walks through the forest. It was quiet, a little on the too quiet side of things, but with the cold months fast approaching, Luna wasn't all that surprised. Coming to a clearing, she put her bag down and sat on one of the fallen trees. Normally, if she sat her long enough the Thestrals would could around to spend some time with her. Sighing softly, she settled in to wait for them...

The thestrals would definitely not show up that day. Kain had slaughtered most of them earlier that day leaving only one alive, but with a dagger sticking out of its neck, killing it slowly. Hurling some meat next to Luna the thestral followed the food the blood pouring from its slim neck as Kain disappeared.

As the pitter-pat of familiar hooves reached her ears, Luna turned to find one of the Thestrals coming towards her. Soon her brow furrowed when she spotted something out of the ordinary about this one. She seemed to be uncertain on her feet and... When Luna's eyes fell on the dagger at the beast's neck, she got up quickly, but so quickly as to startle the hurt beast. Just as it fell to the ground, Luna slid to a stop next to her. "What's happened to you?" she cooed as she pulled out her wand and worked to heal the animal as she pulled the dagger out and cast it away. Her magic was powerful enough to stop her bleeding and seal the wound, but the rest was up to the Thestral as she healed. "There, there... It's alright. You're going to be alright..." Luna spoke soothingly to the beast as she gently stroked her cheek.

Stepping out from the shadows Kain walked hands in his pockets as his fingers toyed with a needle he had inside a holster beneath the fabric of the pocket. He widened his eyes and he gasped as he looked at Luna and the thestral and quickly ran to their side kneeling next to them "What happened?! Who hurt it?!" he asked his tone a mix of sadness and rage only a slytherin could create out of thin air.

Looking up as a Slytherin ran to her side and knelt beside her. "Kain Shadow..." she quipped softly as her bright eyes went from him to the beast. "I don't know, but this is cruel. They left her to simply die on her own. With so few who can see them, no one would have noticed, I'm sure," Luna said, the sorrow she felt for what could have happened should she not been there to help apparent in her words. "They are so misunderstood..." she cooed as an afterthought, "This one will be alright though. Can you check, too? Just in case I missed something?"

"The bastards..." he growled under his breath and nodded at the girl, swooping the beast into his arms, petting its head, before the hand that was hidden by the beast, beneath its neck, moved slightly. This was so Kain propped the blade in his ring out, stabbing the beasts neck once again this time slitting his throat cutting important veins. The ring had dark magic imbued into it so healing wouldn't work. Pulling the blade back into the ring, Kain sobbed... "You missed a spot..." he said as he turned the thestral over carefully and with care.

Watching closely as Kain lifted the beast carefully and checked her over, Luna could only hope that she would be alright. However, hearing that she missed a spot and seeing it with her own eyes as he paced the Thestral back on the forest floor, she felt a small hitch in her breathing as she drew a curt breath. Taking up her wand again, she cast a similar spell over the wound she had missed the first time. As the magic went to work, Luna patted the beast's side and said gently, "I'm sorry I missed it. It's going to be-" Stopping in mid-sentence, Luna's brow furrowed at seeing her magic do nothing for the beast. The wound continued to bleed without slowing in the slightest. "No... It worked before," she said under her breath. "Kain, can you help her?" she asked the Slytherin, looking up at him, her bright eyes pleading for him to help.

Kain lowered his eyes staring at the wound, clenching his fists. He was about to move to pretend he was going to try something, when a kitchen knife landed in the beast's head, effectively killing it. Pouncing to his feet Kain saw Ares stand on a branch before he pounced away and ran deeper into the forest. "After him," Kain said and picked up the beast placing its corpse against a tree and burying it with dirt just by moving his wand causing the wind to move the dirt onto the beast's body. And then he began running, running, running but kept looking back to be sure Luna didn't fall behind.

Luna sat anxiously, watching as Kain prepared to heal the beast, but before anything could be done, a knife sailed out of no where and landed, solidly, in the beasts head, effectively killing her. "No...No!" Luna cried as she watched the light leave the Theastral's dark eyes. As Kain took off after the one that was at fault for what happened, Luna didn't want to leave the beast, but there was nothing else that could be done, now that she was dead. Grabbing her bag, she quickly got to her feet and took off with Kain. Glancing back at the makeshift grave Kain had given the beast, Luna smiled. At least they could do that for her. Then, as quickly as she could, Luna ran deeper into the forest, following Kain.

As soon as Luna began catching up, Kain all but vanished from sight leaving the girl in the dark forest. Shadows similar to crows flew above the trees, pouncing from branch to branch watching the young girl make her way through the forest.

Keeping as close an eye on Kain as she could, Luna kept running, hopping over rocks and trees as she went. Soon, however, she lost sight of him, but she wasn't surprised. He was bigger then she was, and it only made sense that he would run faster. Still, he seemed to have taken special care to make sure that she was still behind him as they went. Slowing her pace, Luna took in where she was, and found herself to be very deep in the trees, in an area that she didn't readily recognize. Glancing up, Luna found that the sun had a hard time making it's way through the branches to the floor below. Clutching the strap of her bag, Luna continued forward, slowly and cautiously. "Kain?" she called to the forest around her. How had he gotten so far ahead so fast?

At the end of the path that Luna was taking a hooded man stood with his back turned to the girl, not moving an inch and making no noises, not even his breath could be heard escaping his throat. A small but dark chuckle was heard echoing from the trees beside the man, and also from behind Luna and from above.

Looking all around for Kain, Luna began to worry that she was finding little to no sign of him. Coming to a stop, Luna took another, close look around her before her blood chilled with the cackle of a dark chuckle surrounded her. Pulling out her wand, she readied herself for anything. When her eyes fell on the hooded figure that stood motionless at the end of the path, she drew a timid breath before asking, "Excuse me, but did you happen to see a boy run through here? If so, can you tell me which way he went?"

As Luna questioned the hooded man he grinned under his hood and instead of answering simply pulled the hood down...

Gasping loudly as she watched the hooded figure remove his hood and reveal...nothing...nothing but a puff of smoke where his head should be. Moving backwards, not daring to take her eyes off the man, Luna's shoe slipped on a mossy rock, causing her to fall to the ground. Scrambling to her feet, Luna Made to run as quickly as she could to get away from the hooded figure and out of the forest to safety.

Before Luna got an inch away from where she was standing before she bumped into Darius' chest, and the boy looked down at her, "Lost?" he asked with a grin as he gripped her shoulders holding her in place, as Ares dropped down from the trees, shooting a tranquilizer towards her neck.

As she crashed into a tall and solid figure, Luna looked up to see a Slytherin she believed to be Darius Carrow, but in the low light, it was hard to tell. Shaking her head at his question, "N-n-no. I was just-" When his hands gripped her shoulders, Luna went to tell him further that she was just heading back when a sharp prick at her neck made her wince. "I... was.... just....." she began when her body went limp as she slipped into unconsciousness...

Throwing Luna's unconscious form over his shoulder, Darius turned around to see Kain and the hooded man waiting as Ares reached him. Nodding, the three boys disappeared leaving Darius to take the girl to the dungeon. When he arrived he threw her into a cell, right next to Fred's, chaining her to the wall...
